SILENT BISTRO WITH BANGO KITCHEN

AT THE BUTTERMARKET, REDRUTH

Last Wednesday Sharp’s Brewing Co and acclaimed food friends Bango Kitchen couple up for a one-night culinary journey at the Buttermarket, Redruth’s ‘coolest comeback’ location. Throughout the special evening, Sharp’s conducted one of their popular Silent Bistro sessions which included interactive tutored tastings of small plate Asian street food crafted by the team at Bango Kitchen accompanied by their carefully matched beer and ciders. Alongside the food and drink, funk and soul beats were brought by DJ Atomic Dog.

Exclusively for the takeover, Howard Sellers and Nick Archer, the two chefs behind Bango Kitchen and The Shellfish Pig crafted a four-course small plate Asian street food inspired menu from their incredible repertoire. This featured dishes such as Mylor Scallipop with Thai kaffir lime fish ball and primrose herd kushiyaki, West Country Teriyaki Flat Iron Steak, Loch Duart Salmon Tartar and 48 Hour Roast Chicken and Pork Tonkotsu Noodle Broth. And Sharp’s, the UK leaders in food and beer matching, provided a bespoke four-course beer and cider-matched menu which included Offshore Pilsner, Twin Coast Session Pale Ale Chalky’s Bite Belgian Style Pale Ale & Sea Fury Special Ale alongside a unique Sharp’s ‘hoptail’ – The Doom Bar daiquiri.

The Buttermarket opened to much applaud in November of last year, founded on the notion of creativity expressed through food. The venue has swiftly established itself as the place for the best up-and-coming culinary talents to showcase their work. Bango Kitchen has a permanent presence in the destination and its regular offering includes dumplings, ramen and much-loved Bao Buns, plus tasty specials curated from local produce. Sharp’s Brewing Company’s Cold River Cider, Offshor Pilsner, Doom Bar Amber Ale & Atlantic Pale Ale are also available to enjoy year-round at the venue.

From its humble beginnings in Rock in 1994 to becoming the largest brewer of cask beer in the South West, Sharp’s Brewing Co has always been synonymous with quality and innovation. Its flagship beer, Doom Bar, remains a favourite across the UK, while its portfolio boasts over 150 international brewing awards. For more than a decade, Sharp’s has been on a mission to reset people’s perceptions of the ways to experience and enjoy beer.

Nick Archer of Bango Kitchen says, “We had a fantastic evening with our friends at Sharp’s providing a whole evening of flavourful immersions for our shared guests. Our specially-created dishes were greatly received and perfectly paired with Sharp’s beers and ciders. It is a real joy to experience people enjoying different flavour combinations that they might not usually consider and we hope to do more of these fun, collaborative events in the future.”

Sam Lyne, Beer Sommelier at Sharp’s Brewing Co says, “We were honoured to work with Howard and Nick of Bango Kitchen to bring this dynamic and fun evening to the brilliant new Buttermarket venue. We are on an ongoing mission to educate and inspire both chefs and diners about the mouth-watering fusion of beer and food, bringing people new knowledge about the passion, craftsmanship and ingredients that go into every pint. Events like this offer the perfect opportunity for us to do just this.”

Sam continued, “For those who were unable to attend this event, we do have some incredible recipes and beer pairing suggestions available to make at home. Visit our website and check out our socials to find out more.”
